Some of the people supported by New Directions were unable to take a holiday this year, so Senior Support Worker Sheila thought a day trip to Skegness would be a perfect alternative. She had a great response when she asked individuals at Gateway Court and Park Lane to take part and everyone was very enthusiastic. Everyone decided to go in August so that there was a better chance of warm weather and so Sheila hired a disability friendly coach to transport the group on their trip. They left at 9.30am from Gateway Court and arrived in Skegness at 1.00pm. The weather was good and they all enjoyed a walk on the prom, a paddle in the sea and ice cream. There was also the opportunity to look around the shops, visit the arcades and enjoy the rides at the funfair.

Sheila said, “It was great to see so much happiness and laughter throughout the day and on the coach. We all had fish and chips on the sea front and then reluctantly had to make our way to the coach to come home. The driver of the coach was lovely to everyone and very helpful and made the journey very pleasurable. We got home around 9.45pm everyone was so full of life and thanked staff for a great day out and would like to do it all again. We are looking forward to doing more trips next year.”
