Donations raised in memory of Sandra Jaggard who supported people with disabilities in Rugby have provided adapted garden furniture for a sensory area at New Directions. Sandra’s husband Keith wanted to support New Directions as he remembers many of the people the charity supports from The Hub café where Sandra was a manager.
The Hub provided opportunities for people with disabilities to work in the café and kitchen building their self-esteem and confidence. Sandra was in her element at The Hub and took them under her wing. The new garden furniture consists of a table with benches and a space specifically design for a wheelchair. It is made from recycled milk bottles and will provide people with disabilities the ability to enjoy time together outdoors and remember Sandra. The table will have a plaque dedicated to Sandra.
Keith said, “Sandra went beyond the call of duty for the people with disabilities she supported. She brought out the best in them at The Hub with a glut of regulars and homemade cakes. The café is now shut, but Sandra has never been forgotten. This recycled garden furniture at New Directions is the perfect tribute to her and will be a lasting reminder to what she achieved.”
